Cantus Papilionis

2017

The silver-golden Egg, known as the Materia Prima of the Philosophers, is the Mercury born from human ingenuity and mystical perfection. The golden gramophone is a symbol of Sound-Word, the Verb born from alchemical operations on the Mercury of the Wise, which, with the right ritual, comes to life and bestows the Soul upon the Raw Stone. The clogs mythologically evoke the human and earthly part of beings, the 4 Elements not yet elevated and “consumed” by Alchemical Operations. The arts intertwine through singing, music, painting (the brushes in the unicorn’s hand), and writing (the white feather), recalling the knowledge of Alchemical Art, the Minor and Major Arcana of Operativity. The Unicorn, a symbol of Virtue and Purity, with its horn, evokes the projection of the Third Eye, beyond the earthly elements of the animal, representing the Mystical Fifth Element.
